Immediate Release: Rockport, IN – Oct. 10th – The South Spencer community is asking for thoughts and prayers for a student-athlete on the South Spencer football team, who sustained a serious injury during the game on Oct. 10th at Farmersburg. Following the incident, the player was attended to by on-site medical staff. Due to the nature of the injury—a suspected head and/or neck injury—it was determined that he required the highest level of pediatric trauma care. As a result, he was airlifted by helicopter from Farmersburg to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis. Riley is nationally recognized for its comprehensive pediatric specialties, including its Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. "Our first and only priority is with the players' health and well-being," said Jeremy Kuester, Athletic Director at South Spencer." We are in close communication with the players' family and are offering our full support to them during this difficult time. We are also supporting his teammates, coaches, and staff as they process this event." No further details regarding the player's condition or the exact circumstances of the injury are available at this time. The South Spencer School Corporation asks that the media and the public respect the privacy of the player's family as they focus on their son’s care. Updates will be provided by the family or through the school as they become available and appropriate. South Spencer School Corporation extends its gratitude to the first responders, medical personnel, and emergency transport teams for their professional action.
